Little Lotad from Pokemon!

Little Lotad from Pokemon!

When it comes to handmade stuff, there’s always that one project that takes you by surprise, right? Recently, I had the pleasure of working on a commission for a Lotad amigurumi from Pokémon, and let me tell you, it was such a fun (and challenging!) experience. 😁
I’ve always loved Lotad’s adorable design, with its little waterlily-like top and silly face. 😜 So I was really excited to bring this character to life, but it turned out to be a bit more trouble than I initially expected. The lilypad part was actually inspired by my lilypad coaster pattern, which I scaled up quite a bit to match Lotad’s proportions. While the concept seemed simple enough, adapting the proportions and still getting yarn to hold its shape properly was the real challenge.
After a lot of trial and error, I finally got the structure just right. It was all about finding that balance between sturdiness and softness - I wanted the lilypad to look substantial but still have that cozy, handmade feel. It was definitely a learning curve, but I’m so happy with how it turned out in the end. 💖
The finishing touches - like Lotad's silly little face and iconic beak - really brought it all together. I’ve just shipped it off to the client, and I’m eagerly waiting to hear if it turned out to be everything they hoped for. Seeing my creations bring joy to others is always the best part of the process! 🥰
This Lotad project reminded me why I love what I do: every new piece teaches me something and helps me grow as a creator. 💪 If you’ve got a favourite Pokémon (or any character, really) that you’d love to see as an amigurumi, don’t hesitate to reach out! Maybe I’ll get to tackle another fun challenge soon! 🤭

Hi Lumy! Thank you so much for creating this adorable Lotad for me! He’s so perfect, with his six nubbly little legs and his adorable expression. I was impressed at how perfect the lilypad on top feels – structural enough that it feels firm and leaf-like, but still so soft and cuddly!

I’m so excited to give Lotad to my fiance. He was so disappointed when they were sold out of Lotad plushies when we went to the Pokemon Center, but I think Lumy’s creation is even cuter and better looking!

If you’re thinking about commissioning Lumy for a custom piece – don’t hesitate! She’s an incredible creator and easy to communicate with. Thanks again Lumy!
