For those who don't know me, my name is Harumi, I'm a Japanese-Brazilian living in Canada. You can call me just Lumy, though. I'm a Visual Artist & Designer based in Ottawa, ON. I mainly work making amigurumi, crochet patterns & tutorials and cute-style digital illustrations.
I've been sharing my creations on social media since 2022, and you can find my crochet patterns in my little online shop. I also - very sporadically - join a few local art markets here in my city, the only places where you'll still find my physical products, such as plushies and printed artwork.
I have a bachelor's degree in Japanese Language and Literature and used to work as a language instructor until 2019. I love the Japanese language and miss it very much in my daily life. But unfortunately, after my mental health reached a breaking point at the time, I couldn't keep up with that job anymore. Thankfully, I'm super blessed that I finally have the opportunity to give a chance to my childhood dream job as an artist.
I've drawn since I was 9 years old and crocheted never-ending chains since I was even younger, even though complete craft projects only came in 2015 after falling in love with the amigurumi technique. I've also been trying to learn and practice digital art since 2021, but the path has been full of ups and downs - maybe more downs than ups.
On more personal notes: I'm a millennial, as you can see by the excessive emoji use. 😗 My genetics are probably the result of some weird ancestors' trade-off where I get the face of a 20 yo and the health of a 70 yo for most of my life until one day they'll synchronize in 200 yo or something. I've been married since 2017. I have 3 kids who are cats and none who are humans. I suffer from allergies during spring, walk my cat during summer, collect colourful leaves during fall and hibernate during winter. I can communicate in Portuguese, Japanese and English. Spanish could also count if you let me reply in any other language. My Duolingo streak and list of languages is long - French, Italian, Korean and Chinese 🙈😂 - for no reason because I have a hard time seriously focusing on studying languages. I'm a gamer of cute and cozy genres. I've been trying to learn how to play the guitar again after a 16-year hiatus. And I guess that's all I can think of to fit this space. 😁
